03/11/2009 Student organizations still lacking office space
New Paltz is an organism. The wiki is the brain.
This year office space has been taken away from student organizations without their knowledge of this happening. "Decisions were made without getting sufficient feedback from the students and many people were angry" said Caitlin Ryan. Efforts are now being made to put the students back in the Student Union Building before it is completely taken over by the administration. For the next academic year students will be able to once again apply for office space. There are two options on the table. One is to have students apply for office space at the beginning of the semester and go through a trial period where their usage of the space would be evaluated by a number of factors. The other option is to have the office space be more collective, where clubs and organizations with similar goals and overlapping e board members would essentially share the space. Neither system of distributing office space has been fully developed yet and both are in need of input from the students. The original plan for the office space was to turn it into fuseable space available to all students; however, "these rooms are not big enough and would not be functional or beneficial to clubs" said Caitlin Ryan.
