[edit] What is HAVEN?
HAVEN is a peer counseling program that offers confidential telephone and walk-in counseling and education to students who are survivors of, or who are concerned about rape and other unwanted sexual experiences. HAVEN volunteers are trained and supervised by the Psychological Counseling Center. HAVEN also maintains a 24-hour emergency beeper service for emergencies. HAVEN is operated by the Student Association and funded with Student Activity Fees.

HAVEN is located in Deyo Hall in the Hasbrouck Complex, on the ground floor in room G13c.

HAVEN is open from 8pm - 1am, 7 days a week, which was the official schedule for the Spring 2006 semester. HAVEN is closed during breaks.

[edit] Becoming a Counselor
If you are a SUNY New Paltz student and wish to become a peer counselor, call the Psychological Counseling Center Service at 257-2920 to inquire. A Crisis Intervention psychology course, taught by Russell Karasik, Ph.D., is required for students who wish to volunteer at the hotline.
