This should include but is not limited to the University Police Department (UPD) and the Village Police Department. [edit] University Police Department

University Police Department at SUNY New Paltz is a State trained Police Force. UPD has the same authority as any other State Police. UPD is comprised of a Department Chief, an assistant to the chief, an Investigator, four Lieutenants, thirteen Officers and a Secretary.

UPD also coordinates a number of programs on campus, such as the Campus Escort Service and R.A.D.

These police are armed with the assault rifles known as AR 15s.
